ADPT Director Named Grand Marshal Of Eureka Gras Parade for 2009
(EUREKA SPRINGS, AR) – Richard W. Davies, Executive Director of the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism (ADPT), has been named as Grand Marshal of the 2009 Eureka Gras Mardi Gras Extravaganza parade. The six-day long New Orleans-style carnival is slated for Feb. 19-24.
The parade, a colorful crowd favorite in years past, winds its way through historic downtown Eureka Springs beginning at 2 p.m., Feb. 21. It will be led by this year’s King, Zeek Taylor, and Queen, Elise Roenigk, and presided over by Davies.
The ADPT director, whose duties include overseeing development and operations of the State Parks and the advertising, public relations and promotion of the state through the Tourism Division, said he was honored to be selected. “I’ve always been a fan of Mardi Gras as an event, and Eureka Springs as a destination,” Davies sated. He continued, “The combination of the two is a real winner for visitors, and I’m honored to be the Grand Marshal in the parade. I suspect a good time will be had by all who attend!”
Davies served 14 years as State Parks Director before his appointment as the Department Director on May 24, 1990. He is a 1972 graduate of the University of Arkansas and holds a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism.
